Released alongside the 2018 iPad Pro, the second-generation Apple Pencil sets the standard for drawing and note-taking on a tablet device. With its sleek design, pixel perfect precision and imperceptible lag, the Pencil is the perfect accompaniment to the latest series of Apple iPads.
Featuring a new matte finish, the latest Pencil is thinner than its predecessor and has one flat side, making it more comfortable to use. The new Pencil looks modern in comparison, however the differences in the two models go beyond simple aesthetics.
Key Features of the Apple Pencil
- Wireless pairing and charging
- Attaches magnetically
- Double-tap to change tools
- Pixel-perfect precision
- Tilt and pressure sensitivity
- Imperceptible lag
Using Double Tap
One of the biggest additions to the new Apple Pencil is the “double-tap” feature. This allows you to quickly and easily switch to and from the eraser tool by simply double tapping the front end of the Pencil. Fix mistakes with ease!
Not only that but the double-tap feature is customisable too. You can choose between the following options, by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Apple Pencil.
- Switch between current tool and eraser
- Switch between current tool and last used
- Show colour palette
- Disable Double-tap feature
Just like using a real pencil
The latest generation of iPad devices feature ProMotion, which allow the display to refresh at a higher rate (120 times a second) compared to previous devices. This allows the Apple Pencil to work with a much lower lag time – making it feel more natural.
Couple this with the incredible “palm rejection” feature of iOS (allowing you to rest your hand on the iPad whilst drawing) and the pressure and tilt sensitivity detection of the Pencil it feels like you are using an actual pencil!
Wireless Charging
Unlike the original Pencil, which charged through an integrated lightning connector, the latest version takes advantage of wireless charging technology and charges directly from the iPad itself.
Apple Pencil attaches magnetically to the side of the iPad Pro or iPad Air and automatically pairs and charges on the go.
